Dutch Meyer

Dutch Meyer

A three–sport letterman as a student at TCU, Meyer ultimately went on to become the Horned Frogs’ head coach in 1934. To this day, Meyer is the all–time winningest coach in school history, having amassed a lifetime record of 109–79–13. The “Saturday Fox”, a nickname he earned because of his innovative offensive schemes, led TCU to its last national championship in 1938 and also claimed Southwest Conference titles in 1938, 1944 and 1951.

Sammy Baugh

Sammy Baugh

Slingin’ Sammy Baugh, the man many credit with inventing football’s modern passing game, was a high school prodigy from Sweetwater, Texas. A consensus All–American at TCU, Sam led the Horned Frogs to Sugar and Cotton Bowl victories in 1936 and 1937, respectively. A Heisman Trophy candidate both those years, Baugh went on to rewrite virtually every passing category in the NFL record books and is a member of both the College and Pro Football Hall of Fames.

Davey O'Brien

Davey O’Brien

Lil’ Davey O’Brien, the 5’ 7” quarterback from Dallas, led the TCU Horned Frogs to their last national championship in 1938. That year, O’Brien was named to thirteen All–American teams and became the first college player in history to win the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award in the same year. Today, the award given annually to the best quarterback in collegiate football is appropriately named The Davey O’Brien Award.

Jim Swink

Jim Swink

One of the all–time great running backs in TCU history, Jim Swink earned his nickname “The Rusk Rambler” in high school. A two–time All–American at TCU, he is perhaps best known for the gaudy running statistics he gained against the rival Texas Longhorns, rushing for 235 yards and scoring 26 points in their 1955 showdown. That same year, he finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting and is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.

Bob Lilly

Bob Lilly

Strong, smart and deceptively quick, Bob Lilly was perhaps the prototype for today’s defensive tackle position. While at TCU, the big talent from little Olney, Texas was a two–time All–Southwest Conference player and consensus All–American. Lilly then went on to star for the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL, winning 11 Pro Bowl selections in 13 seasons, as well as seven All–Pro selections. He is the first Cowboys’ player inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and is also a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.

LaDainian Tomlinson

LaDainian Tomlinson

As a senior at University High in Waco, LaDainian rushed for a remarkable 2,554 yards and 39 touchdowns. In 1998, he helped TCU claim its first Bowl victory in 41 years, beating the USC Trojans in the Sun Bowl. He holds the NCAA single game rushing record of 406 yards, and led the NCAA in rushing during both his junior and senior years. LaDainian won the Doak Walker Award as the nation’s top running back in 2000. In 2006, Tomlinson set the NFL single season touchdown record and was named NFL MVP, as a member of the San Diego Chargers.
